TWO CAPABILITIES — ONE TECHNOLOGY
Quantum Drive is developing a next-generation pulsed electromagnetic platform based on a defined and engineered architecture.
The programme addresses two primary capabilities:
- Counter and neutralise hostile UAV/UAS electronic systems through pulsed electromagnetic effects.
- Electromagnetically accelerate a physical payload to very high velocity, with a theoretical reference configuration of approximately 6 kg and a target velocity of up to Mach 7.
The platform combines HTS superconducting technology, SMES energy storage, SiC power electronics, cryogenics, electromagnetic modules, high-speed instrumentation and synchronised control within a common architecture.
The scientific models, engineering calculations and system architecture have been developed, and the principal technologies and materials required for the demonstrator have been identified.
The next step is clear: build, instrument, test and demonstrate the system with the right industrial partner.
1 — COUNTER-UAV / COUNTER-UAS
ELECTROMAGNETIC NEUTRALISATION
The first strategic capability directly addresses hostile drones and unmanned aerial systems.
Quantum Drive is designed to generate controlled pulsed electromagnetic effects intended to disrupt or neutralise critical onboard electronic functions.
The objective is to develop a new technological capability for protecting sensitive environments against rapidly evolving unmanned threats.
Priority applications include:
• Critical infrastructure
• Energy facilities
• Sensitive industrial sites
• Ports and maritime infrastructure
• Logistics platforms
• Strategic sites
2 — MOBILE & DEPLOYABLE DEFENCE
Quantum Drive is designed from the outset for integration onto a heavy mobile carrier platform.
The vehicle can incorporate the complete technological chain:
• LiFePO₄ power supply
• SMES / rapid energy storage
• SiC power electronics
• Electromagnetic modules
• HTS Bulk systems
• Cryogenics
• Sensors and instrumentation
• ECU, control and synchronisation
• Electro-mechanical orientation system
This creates a modular, mobile and repositionable architecture that can be deployed according to operational requirements.
MOBILE • DEPLOYABLE • ORIENTABLE • MODULAR
3 — MARITIME PROTECTION
The same technological architecture can be adapted for integration onto maritime platforms.
Quantum Drive therefore provides a potential technological foundation for the protection of vessels, ports, offshore assets and maritime infrastructure against unmanned systems.
The maritime configuration retains the same fundamental technological chain while adapting its integration to onboard energy availability, marine environmental conditions, cooling, vibration, platform movement, sensors and operational requirements.
This enables one common technology to support both land-based and maritime protection architectures.
4 — HYPERSONIC ELECTROMAGNETIC ACCELERATION
The second major capability uses the same technological foundation for electromagnetic acceleration at very high velocity.
Quantum Drive's scientific modelling and engineering calculations have established a theoretical reference configuration:
REFERENCE PAYLOAD: ~6 kg
TARGET VELOCITY: UP TO MACH 7
ELECTROMAGNETIC ACCELERATION
MODULAR ARCHITECTURE
This represents an engineering target derived from the programme's current models and calculations.
The next phase is to transform this calculated architecture into measurable physical results through progressive experimental demonstration.
5 — PULSED ELECTROMAGNETIC VORTEX
Quantum Drive also incorporates an advanced concept involving a pulsed electromagnetic field generated at the exit of the acceleration system.
The intended function is to locally modify the medium ahead of the payload and investigate the creation of a propagation corridor capable of reducing the aerodynamic constraints encountered at very high velocity.
The research objective includes the study of potential reductions in atmospheric-density effects, aerodynamic loading and thermal constraints during high-speed and hypersonic propagation.
This advanced function forms part of the experimental programme and will be quantitatively characterised during the progression toward TRL 5.
ONE COMMON TECHNOLOGICAL ARCHITECTURE
One of Quantum Drive's key advantages is the ability to share the same core technologies across multiple capabilities:
LiFePO₄ POWER SUPPLY
→ SMES ENERGY STORAGE
→ SiC POWER ELECTRONICS
→ PULSED ELECTROMAGNETIC MODULES
→ HTS BULK SYSTEMS
→ CRYOGENICS
→ SENSORS & METROLOGY
→ ECU — CONTROL & SYNCHRONISATION
From this common technological foundation, several development pathways become possible:
COUNTER-UAV / COUNTER-UAS
Electromagnetic neutralisation
MOBILE DEFENCE
Deployable land platforms
MARITIME DEFENCE
Naval and infrastructure protection
HIGH-SPEED ACCELERATION
~6 kg reference payload / target up to Mach 7
PULSED ELECTROMAGNETIC VORTEX
Research into atmospheric propagation constraints
FROM ENGINEERING TO DEMONSTRATOR

THE NEXT STEP IS INDUSTRIAL
Quantum Drive is looking for an industrial partner or consortium with the engineering, manufacturing, integration, testing and qualification capabilities required to build the next stage of the programme.
Quantum Drive brings the technological architecture, scientific and engineering work, development roadmap and intellectual property foundation.
The industrial partner brings the capabilities required to transform that foundation into a physical, instrumented and measurable demonstrator.
